Obituary of Jean May Lawrence
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jean Lawrence announces her passing on April 26, 2018. Jean is survived by her children Heather (Gerry) Penner, and Jim (Debbie) Lawrence and her seven grand daughters - Jillian (Himanshu) Tadiparty, Brittany (Lee) Cooper, Chelsey (Reid) Oliver; Crystal Lawrence, Stephanie (Jonathan) Hunter, Traci (Jordan) Teichgrab, Vanessa Lawrence (Scott Poulter) as well as ten great grandchildren whom she adored. She is also survived by her brother Mason Simmons and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Earl Lawrence, her parents Harry and Jean Simmons, her brother Ray Simmons and sisters Ruth Lawrence and Mary Lou Holland. Jean was born May 13,1924, on the family farm south of Colonsay, and grew up attending Colonsay School. About the time she finished school, WWII was in progress and she went to work in the Bank of Toronto for six years prior to her marriage. Jean married Earl Lawrence on October 5, 1949. In 1950 they moved to the homestead where they lived for many years and raised their family. She spent the majority of her life doing her part to keep the farm running smoothly, by making sure everyone was well fed and cared for. In 1987 Jean and Earl bought a condo in Saskatoon where they spent their winters, returning to the farm in the summer for many years and enjoying the best of both worlds. Jean was an avid quilter and it was during this time that she joined the Creative Quilters group, making many beautiful quilts over the years. Earl and Jean celebrated fifty nine years of marriage before Earl's death in 2008. Jean was a very loving individual who took great pride in watching her children and grand daughters grow up and start families of their own. She will be missed by us all. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind support during this time, and the staff of Luther Special Care Home for their care of Jean over the past year. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the CNIB or a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Saskatoon Funeral Home at 1:30 PM.
