Obituary of Irmgart (Irma) Margaret Gerbrandt
IRMGART (IRMA) MARGARET GERBRANDT
Surrounded by the love of her family, Irma passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital on Tuesday, April 17th at the age of 88 years. Irma was born to Margreta & Henry Toews on June 20,1929 in Cudworth, SK. She spent the majority of her early years growing up in Saskatoon and then attended Rosthern Junior College. In 1950, Irma obtained a BA in science from the University of Saskatchewan and went on to work as a laboratory technologist at City Hospital for the next 6 years. In 1952, she married Frank Gerbrandt and they eventually made their home in Saskatoon where they were surrounded by family and their church community. Many happy times & memories were made at the house on Landa and the cabin at Emma Lake, where Irma prepared excellent meals and extended her table to one and all. Love for her family was always at the centre of Mom's life; ever ready to provide encouragement and support to her children and grandchildren. She shared her love of literature throughout her life serving as church librarian, participating in a book club for 50 years, and instilling a love of reading in her family. She will be lovingly remembered by Frank, her husband of 66 years; daughters, Karen (Bram) Deurloo of Ottawa and their children, Benjamin (Lonnie) and Stephanie (Christopher), and Elinor (Karl) Reimer of Rossland, BC and their children, Luke and Derek. Irma was predeceased by her parents, her sister Margaret (Beno) Enns, her brother Cornelius Toews, and 2 infant children. Memorial service will be held at Nutana Park Mennonite Church, 1701 Ruth St, Saskatoon on Monday, April 23,2018 at 2:00 pm. Donations in memory of Irma can be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (600 45th St W, Saskatoon, S7L 5W9).
