Obituary of Faulds Percival Spinney
Faulds Percival Spinney (SPIN)
February 19, 1919 – January 30, 2018
It is with sadness that the family of Faulds Spinney announce his passing at Sherbrooke Community Centre on January 30, 2018. Dad was the second eldest child of Stephen and Hazel Spinney, born in Saint John, New Brunswick. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family. Dad was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Margaret, who passed away in 2011. Remembering Dad are his daughter Lynn, son Jim Spinney (Holly Ann Knott), grandson Shawn (Courtney) Spinney, Robertson (Amanda) Spinney and great grand children Kyra and Lucas Spinney, granddaughter Leigh Spinney (Mike Smith), daughter Marsha (Mark) Humbert, grandson Brad (Leah) Humbert and great grandchildren Eden and Liam Humbert. Also remembering Dad are his sisters in law Isabel (Norm) Gettel and Julie Robertson, his cousins Joyce Smith and Carl Neuenhaus, Sharon McIntyre (daughter of his lifelong friends George and Bertella), and numerous nephews, nieces and good friends he met through the years.
Dad retired from the Government of Saskatchewan (Social Services) in 1984 after over 30 years. At the time of his retirement he was supervisor of the Rural Unit for the Department. Prior to his employment with the government, Dad proudly served with the RCMP. Retirement years for Dad and Mom were spent between Candle Lake and in their motor home going south for the winter. They moved to Penticton in 1989 and Dad filled his days with wood carving, painting pictures and tennis, which he played until age 90. Dad was inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame (for basketball) in 1999. Prior to moving back to Saskatoon, Dad was made an honourary lifetime member of the Pentiction Yacht and Tennis Club. Dad and Mom moved back to Saskatoon in 2008. Dad spent his final four years at the Sherbrooke Community Centre. His room was filled with art work, carvings, pictures, and plaques of his accomplishments. He loved to show any visitors who dropped by all that he had done through his lifetime. The family would like to thank ALL staff who had regular contact with Dad and to Dr. Mark Boechler. The care and attention shown to Dad in his final days by everyone was greatly appreciated.
A man who’ll walk
a road that’s rough
and won’t dare settle
for just good enough
Who pushes on
When most wouldn’t bother
Shows what it means
to be a father
