Obituary of Robert Poirier
Bob passed away March 25 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, due to congestive heart failure. He was 88 years old. Bob is survived by his daughter, Denise (Kris) Finnestad; grandsons, Rob and Ric;, sisters, Doreen (Ralph) Manson and Edith Lytle; brother, Ed Poirier (Carol) and brother-in-law, Tom Husby, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 61 years, Gert, and several in-laws. Bob was born in Elrose, SK and spent his life farming at Wiseton. In 1953 he married Gert Husby. Bob and Gert were both community and family people. Bob served on the Co-op and church boards as well as the school board. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. In 1995, Bob and Gert retired to Saskatoon. Bob took up woodworking and also started building and flying model airplanes. He enjoyed traveling and time spent at the lake, especially with his grandsons. Bob moved to Riverside Terrace in 2013. He served on the Craft Council, spearheaded the building of a gazebo, and enjoyed scooter outings with friends. Bob touched many lives and will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 1:00 p.m. at the W.A. Edwards Family Center, 333 4th Ave N, Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (Unit 26 1738 Quebec Av. Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9).
