Obituary of Richard Lloyd Wells

WELLS, RICHARD LLOYD
September 29, 1927- March 24, 2018

With sadness we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Wells. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Katherine Wells, and stepson Jai Pereira.  Dick is survived by his wife Ena, daughter Donna Wells (Jim Paton) and his pride and joy, his grandchildren; Quinn, Sean, Brenna and Reilly.  Also mourning his passing are Ena’s daughter Asha Pereira (Grant Edwards) and step grandchildren (Sydney, Logan, Ally, Veronica and Marlo).  Dick will be missed by his many family and friends.  Dick was born and raised in Winnipeg, where he met the love of his life, Ena. Together they moved to Saskatoon in 1982 and were married in 1988. Dick worked for CN Rail from 1946-1992, retiring as a crash-site investigator. He was an active member of Trinity Church in Winnipeg, and St. John’s Cathedral in Saskatoon. Although an accomplished hockey player, playing with the likes of Billy Mosienko, Dick chose to become a concert pianist, and developed a passion for barbershop.  Beginning in 1953 he went on to become the Director, first in Winnipeg, and then with the Chimo Chordsmen in Saskatoon.  Over the years, Dick collected many awards and accolades, including Barbershopper of the Year. Dick was a lifelong curling, Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan (even in Rider Nation).  He loved to travel with Ena by car, camping along the way. Their favorite destination was Victoria, BC.  He will be remembered for his many stories, “jokes”, and strong opinions. Thank you to the caregivers at Parkville Manor, Saskatchewan Health home care nurses, the paramedics and staff at St. Paul’s Hospital for the care and support they provided. A Celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Saskatoon Funeral Home beginning at 2:30 p.m.
