Obituary of Veronica Margaret Matsalla
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother and Friend. Veronica was born on the farm near Pilger Saskatchewan on Aug 15 1936. She lost her mom at a very early age and was raised by her older siblings and her father. She attended school at St Bernard which was a country school a few miles from home. She started her working career with her brother Ben at Dept. of Highways as a cook. She was on the crew that built the road from Laronge to Otter Rapids. This is where she met the love of her life Ed. Once they were married they moved out of the north and they raised their family in Elstow Saskatchewan. There she was a school bus driver for many many years. I’m sure some of her passengers can still remember her staring at them in that long overhead mirror.
In 1983 she moved to Furdale with her family and still drove bus to South Corman Park School. She then started her own business with Ed cleaning Houses and Banks and Clavet School. Mom cleaned at TCU and STF for many more years and retired at the age of 80 from cleaning.
Veronica was predeceased by her husband Ed Matsalla, Brother Ben Poppel, Brother Ed Poppel, Sister Marie Wehage and an infant brother John. Also by her Parents Rose and Martin Poppel. She also lost numerous brothers and sisters-in-law along with aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her son Gord and his wife Judy and daughter Nicole Matsalla. Her Daughter Charlene and her husband John and Daughters Melissa (David) and Christine Oleksyn . She is also Survived by Her sisters Caroline Altman and Ann Wozney, Brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Her extended family in Furdale and all who knew her. She left a lasting impression on everyone she touched.
