Obituary of Flora Louise Griffith
Louise Griffith of Saskatoon passed away peacefully with family by her side. Mom was particularly proud of her children, grand-children, and great grand-children. She was quietly spiritual and brought this into her nursing and volunteer services over the years. Louise received her nursing training from the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert and balanced nursing, parenting and volunteering seamlessly.
Over the years, she volunteered wherever she lived: Saskatoon, Borden in the Halcyonia District, Meadow Lake and La Ronge. She was active in U.C.W., led C.G.I.T., Mission groups, 4H, Garden and Home Nursing groups, Oliver Lodge Executive, Saint Andrews Auxiliary, the Century Club, different committees in the United Church, whether local Presbytery or at conference levels. One summer she volunteered her nursing services in Baie Verte Newfoundland Mission Hospital. After her first husband, Oral Young, died, she enjoyed a position at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon as Lay Chaplin visiting rural patients. Louise had many interests and hobbies, joined in school track meets, played softball, loved square dancing, played cards, gardened, floor shuffled, painted pictures and played the piano to amuse herself. For the past 26 years she led “In Motion” exercise classes in McClure Place and she sponsored different children in India for over 35 years. You can tell that she loved to keep busy! Mom was predeceased by her son Harold in 1968, first husband Oral in 1979, sister Francis Parks, brother-in-law Hugh Parks, second husband John Griffith in 2010, her parents and many other family members. She is survived by: daughter Doreen Scott, grandson Ryan Scott (Tina), great-grandchildren Maya and Lukas, grandson Jeff Scott (Andrea), great-grandchildren Jakob and Sam, grandson Derek Scott (Deah) great-grandchildren, Eve, Elliot, Emmett and Simon: son John Young (Susann), grand-son Jan Rainey and family: son Ron Young (Beth), grandson Rhett. Husband John Griffith's family in Illinois, son Bob (Carol) and family: Jayson (Brittany), Jonathan (Kristy) Owen, Julie (Aaron), Paige and Landon. A Life Celebration Service will be held in McClure United Church at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 9, 2018. Donations left in Louise’s memory may be made out to United Church Mission and Service, McClure United Church, or a charity of your choice.
