My deepest condolences to your family. I was fortunate to be Eileen's intern in 1985. She was a truly remarkable teacher and mentor. I learned so much from her and think of her as I am now nearing the end of my teaching career after 30 years. I was also on that trip to the Japanese restaurant to hear Eileen explain to one distraught child why the man was throwing food at him. I can also still recall the song she wrote for the kitchen band at Christmas concert time as the students with wooden spoons sang "yes, I do like that beat; unless it's used upon my seat". Eileen was truly a very special person and I am so grateful to have met her.

Deceased Eileen Hawryliw
My dear Auntie Eileen, When I would return to Saskatoon I would fetch Kody (my Ma's dog) and we would run down Albert Street to see you and Bo. Your place was always filled with fun and hysteria. Your music selection could be an opera from the Met or you and Bo would be playing some "honky tonk" music. And of course I would raid your refrigerator, just because I could and you would laugh. And then I would go into your closet and tell you I was going to take your YSL or Givenchy suits with me along with your Louis Vuitton bag and you would laugh. You were such a good friend. When I would call you from Toronto we would both speak of our loneliness and our good memories. Good bye sweet Eileen I hope there is a "life after" because I sure would like to have a game of cards with my parents, you and Bo. When I look out the jet window I have melancholy for the family and friends who have gone and I then have to say a prayer to be thankful for having someone like you in my life.
Your pal Ziggy

Please accept my deepest sympathy in the death of Eileen. I always enjoyed visiting with her because she was quite the character. She had a great life and I am lucky to have known her. May your fond memories of your Mom and Baba bring you comfort.
