Obituary of Thomas Martin Skene

Thomas Skene passed away peacefully on February 23, 2018 in the loving presence of his sister, Dorothy, and her husband, Barry Horn. Tom will be fondly remembered by his brothers, Bob (Marj), and Ian (Mary Pat), and Ed (Marianne), and his sister, Dorothy (Barry), his nieces and nephews, and many friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his father, Wilfred, his mother, Beatrice, and his brother, James. Born in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan , Tom grew up in the Buena Vista area and attended the Saskatoon Technical Collegiate Institute where he was trained in mechanics and also developed an interest in electronics. He loved to work on his cars, small motors, and anything else that needed fixing or improving. He was recognized as one of the top mechanics in Saskatchewan . He moved into a position in Sales with Moog and won many awards for his salesmanship, finishing his career with Expertire. In his early and teen years, he helped his uncle and cousin on their farm east of Saskatoon . He especially loved the weeks he was able to spend at the family cottage at Okema Beach , Emma Lake , enjoying boating and fishing. He was gifted with the cabin upon the passing of his mother and became an integral part of the lake community, and a frequent patron of the local diners. He could often be found sitting on his deck reading or just enjoying the view. It was here that his friendship with Doug Agnew and his family continued. Friends from childhood, they enjoyed many of the same things centered around life at the lake. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the physicians and staff at St. Paul ’s Hospital and the Cancer Clinic for their compassionate care during his 12-year battle with cancer. A Celebration of his Life will be planned for April of this year. . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul ’s Hospital.
