Obituary of Emilie Pexa
EMILIE PEXA
March 26, 1928 – December 1, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the loss of a dear mother, Oma, and great-grandmother. Emilie passed away accidentally in the early evening of Friday, December 1st near her home in Saskatoon. Emilie Ringhofer was born in Günseck, Burgenland, Austria, to Gustav and Elisabeth Ringhofer. She moved to Vienna as a young woman to learn the trade of seamstress. There, she met the love of her life, Herbert Pexa. After they married, they decided to move to Canada to join Herbert's brother Walter in search of a better life, arriving in Halifax by ship on April 2nd, 1954, then continuing on to Saskatoon by train. Her first job in Canada was at the Bessborough Hotel, where she continued to work while also taking care of Herbert after he was badly injured at work in their first year here. She also took care of him after another serious injury as well as a lengthy illness while raising their two sons, and supported him through the establishment of his business. Her life was never easy, but she stood by Herbert through thick and thin. Emilie was a proud member of the German-Canadian Club Concordia since 1967, and was recognized at its 60th Anniversary celebration this year. One of Mom's greatest pleasures was spending summers at the family cabin at Little Bear Lake with Opa for nearly 40 years, where they made many friends. She was a strong-willed and independent person who wanted to continue to live in her own house after Opa's passing in 2014, and still did her own cooking, cleaning and baking at 89. She was a fabulous cook and baker. Emilie is survived by sons Harold (Stefanie) and Fred (Michelle), grandsons Jeff (Lara) of South Africa & Jeremy Pexa (Janessa Bailey), granddaughters Andrea Hudson (Jeremy) & Katrina Pexa, great-grandsons Seth Pexa, Owen Pexa & Hunter Hudson, and great-granddaughters Mackenna Hudson and Jett Hudson, as well as by siblings Albert and Ernst (Frieda) Ringhofer and their children, all in Austria. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Herbert, as well as sister Theresia Kaindl, brothers Gustav & Hans, and sister-in-law Berta, all in Austria.
Mom, you did so much for us, and we will love you and miss you forever.
