Obituary of Allan Tekanoff

Allan Gerald Tekanoff November 15, 1934 – November 3, 2017 Allan passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital at the age of 82, being predeceased by his parents William and Mary, his sister Betty, and brother, Bill. Allan will lovingly be remembered by his wife Lenore (nee Nichvolodoff) of 62 years and his two sons; Rory and his wife Elata from London, Ontario and Reese and his wife, Helen from Saskatoon. Allan was dearly loved by his grandchildren who live far and wide; granddaughter Erin who lives in Regina, Sask. with husband Mike DiStasi, granddaughter Lisa, who lives in Cancun, Mexico with husband David Cielak , and Allan’s grandson Tyler, who lives in Toronto, Ontario with his partner, Jacqueline Bennett. Allan was fortunate to have five beautiful and healthy great-grandchildren, Avery and Lincoln Distasi, Chloe and Ilan Kessous-Cielak, and his newly born great grandson, Gavin Bennett- Delgaty. Allan met his love, Lenore in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan and were married in 1955 and settled in Saskatoon, in 1960. Allan and Lenore resided on Winnipeg Avenue in Saskatoon from 1962 to present, where they raised their sons. Allan bravely served his community on the Saskatoon Fire Department for 32 years before a ceremonious retirement in 1991. Allan had many interests and will always be remembered for his sense of humour, his constant joking, and his love of family. He had many friends in the community and could be found on many mornings having coffee at the Co-op on his days off. Following his retirement from the Fire Department, he took an avid interest in mechanics and small engine repair, which he taught himself. There was never a time one couldn’t find Allan in his garage, fixing or selling a snowblower or lawnmower for, or to anyone who answered his ads in the paper. Allan also loved to travel, spending time with his son and his wife in Georgetown, Ontario, every summer, and then winter holidays at his son’s home in Florida. He got around to many places in Canada and the US, and was a huge fan of Las Vegas, where he enjoyed winning at the slot machines. At the end of his life, Allan was well cared for by the good people at the Central Haven Care Home in Saskatoon. His wife and family will always appreciate the extended “family” who surrounded Allan with love and support at Central Haven. Sincere appreciation and gratitude is extended by Allan’s family to the staff and palliative care physicians on the 6th floor teaching unit at RUH in Saskatoon for their care and support during Allan’s final days. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund would be appreciated.
