Obituary of Maxine McDonald
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maxine McDonald on October 2, 2017 after a prolonged illness. She was pre-deceased by the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Jack McDonald, who passed away in 2014. She is survived by her three sons Kevin (Sherry), Shane (Sharon) and Robin (Brandi), nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Maxine was born in Rosthern and moved to Saskatoon shortly after graduating from high school. After attending secretarial school she worked at McMillan and Dill, a local CA firm. It was while walking to work each day that she met Jack. For some reason he always happened to be hanging around the gas pumps at Mid City Motors, where he worked. Maxine spent much of her earlier married years looking after three very active boys, while Jack traveled throughout Western Canada on business. She eventually decided to re-enter the working world, first working on weekends at the Royal University Hospital. This eventually became a full-time job and Maxine worked at the Hospital for 25 years. Maxine loved good friends and travel, and in many cases she was able to combine the two. She loved to spend time at Waskesiu, road trips to Portland, Oregon and Tijuana, Mexico, time in Penticton, Arizona, Hawaii and an unforgettable trip to Europe. For many years she could be found each Saturday morning, surrounded by friends and family, having breakfast at a local restaurant. Her special joy was her grandchildren. Whether it was babysitting or hosting week long visits, she loved having her grandchildren near and they loved spending time with her. A special thank you to the staff of Preston Extendicare for their loving care of Maxine during her time there.
