Obituary of Edward Kent Stephenson

STEPHENSON, EDWARD KENT 1951-2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kent Stephenson on Friday September 29, 2017. Kent was born in Saskatoon on January 31, 1951 and was happy to call Saskatoon home his entire life. Kent was predeceased by his parents Eric and Helen Stephenson, his brother-in-law Don Reddick and nephew Brayden Reddick, his aunt Helen Chapman and uncle Craig Murray. Kent is survived by his children Dustin and Brittany Parenteau and Brittany’s daughter, his sister Cathy (Royal) Hinther and their children Lindsey, Ashley, Jennifer and Kelsey, his sister Colleen Reddick and her son Michael, his loving friend Brenda Clark, as well as his aunt Shirley and numerous cousins. Kent completed the requirements for a journeyman electrician at SIAST and was just getting started in his chosen vocation when he learned he was going to lose his sight. After living with his disability for many years, he pursued and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and continued on to pursue a Masters of Arts. He was very knowledgeable, intelligent, and inquisitive. He took great interest in current events. He followed the Saskatchewan Roughriders with great enthusiasm. His friends and family could expect a phone call after each Rider game to discuss the team’s performance where Kent would analyze each and every play of the game. The telephone, which he used considerably, was his link to the outside world for staying in constant contact with his friends and family. He enjoyed family times, especially Christmas, and playing board games that were intellectually challenging such as Trivial Pursuit. He also enjoyed his music, and fishing with his friends at Missinippee, Waskesui and Jan Lake. Kent had a special love for dogs and had many large pet dogs throughout his life. Kent approached his life and health issues with great strength and perseverance; he handled everything with courage and humor. He very seldom complained about anything and always had a positive attitude.
