Obituary of Esther McFadyen
MCFADYEN, Esther Eileen (nee Akister)
January 14, 1920 – October 3, 2017
Mom passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence and daughter Lucile Pidwerbesky. Mom was the fifth of eight children born to Roxie and Irving Akister. She grew up on the family homestead near Tuberose, SK. She rode to school in horse and cart with her siblings, helped deliver milk, enjoyed sports and was involved in all aspects of family farming. After graduating from high school and Normal School Mom went on to teach in several one-room country schools. While teaching in Asquith she met and married her husband of 62 years, Clarence McFadyen. Together they farmed and raised six children with the core values of love and family first. Her legacy is her unconditional love for her children; she was always there for us no matter what. She taught us to sing, dance, love life and there is always room for one more around the table. Mom’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At family gatherings, when you couldn’t find her, you just looked for the grandchildren. With great patience, she taught them all to play canasta. Mom had a passion for quilting, life-long learning, playing piano and violin, dancing and gardening. Whether it was working in the garden, picking fruit, riding around on the lawn mower or leaving water for “her birds”, her favourite place to be was at the farm. Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are: son-in-law John Pidwerbesky, Wendy (Ray) Hudon, Darrell (Ferne) McFadyen, Marion (Henri) Loiselle, Elva (Maurice) Akister, Shirley (Ron) Keller, as well as 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Mom’s caregiver and companion of the past three years, Gaynor Quindao. You cared for Mom with such love and compassion. We truly appreciate your contribution! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Agency, 20 Campus Drive, Saskatoon Sk. S7N 4H4.
