I was deeply saddened to learn of Marla's passing. I first met her upon her return to Canada, with Geoff, Carmen and Miles. We discussed the university's Amati instruments and the need for them to be featured, played and cared for in Saskatoon. She immediately struck me as a person of character, determination and sensitivity, and shortly afterward I commissioned her and Geoff to form the University of Saskatchewan Amati Quartet. Its great success and contribution to the music scene in Saskatoon and beyond is known to all.
I can imagine the poignancy, sadness and reflections of this time for Geoff, Carmen, Miles, Margaret, Barry and the entire family. My heartfelt condolences go out to all.
