David William McBride

David McBride, of Saskatoon, passed suddenly after a long illness on Thursday, September 7th, 2017 at the age of 81 at the Royal University Hospital. Preceded in death by his wife Patricia, father Norman, mother Grace, sisters Muriel and Shirley, brother Norman and nephew Duane Munro. Survived by his son Norman (Cheryl) of Yellowknife and grandchildren Jenna (Jared), Julie (Todd, Mason) and Katie (Matt); his daughter Deborah (Todd) of San Diego and grandchildren Pamela and Ethan; niece Bernadette Feairs and daughter Hannah; and nephew Rob and Kathie Cleveland and children Jamie and Zane; and niece Jackie Braun (Ralph) and children Justin and Eric. David was born in rural Saskatchewan in 1935. He joined the military at 18 and served 25 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, achieving the rank of Warrant Officer before retiring. During his military career he travelled all over the world with UN Peace Keeping Missions (Congo, Europe, India, Cyprus) as an Aircraft Engineer and performed Search and Rescue missions. He was also proud of his work with The Snow Birds. After the military, he joined Northwest Territorial Airlines as the Chief of Maintenance. David loved working with aircraft and often told stories about the planes and the camaraderie of the mechanics.
After working for another 15 years, David retired in 1994 to Saskatoon with his wife and his constant companion, Squiggs. David enjoyed keeping up on current events and meeting with his friends and neighbors. He could be found many mornings sharing a coffee and some conversation with his group of friends. His relationships with his neighbors were also a source of joy and comfort for him. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 25 years.
