Obituary of Kathy Exner

Kathy Exner (née Skinner) of Saskatoon passed away peacefully with family by her side at St. Paul’s Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Sinclair; her children Heather (Mike), Lynn, and Cory (Tanis); her grandchildren Jenelle, Xander, Xavier, Britton, Sloane and Brodie; and her siblings, Yvonne Brown and Fred Skinner. She was predeceased by her son Shawn, her sister Joan, and her parents Mary and Kenelm. Kathy was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. She grew up at the family homestead in the Qu’Appelle Valley. She attended the one-room schoolhouse at Katepwa, until she transferred to Qu’Appelle Diocese School in Regina in Grade 10. After graduation, she became a teacher, which was her true calling. Kathy joyfully taught kindergarten at various schools in the Saskatoon Public School system until 1994. After retirement, she filled her busy days with birdwatching, cooking, art, and travel. In 1964, Kathy met Sinclair at a party and it was love at first sight. They married on August 13, 1966. They were blessed with their son Peter Shawn in 1971, who sadly passed away shortly after his first birthday. While heartbroken, Kathy and Sinc had so much love still to share. They were graced over the next few years with the arrival of Cory, Lynn and Heather. Favorite memories included camping, ski trips, and large family gatherings. Later years were filled with the joy of their six grandchildren. Kathy’s life was characterized by one primary thing: Love. Her love story with Sinc, spanning six decades. Her love for her children and her grandchildren. Her love for all of the students she taught. Her love for nature, and all the natural world has to offer. Her love of travel, and seeing the world. Her love for friends and family, and making all feel welcome in her home. She was kind and generous and funny and patient. She was loved and will be missed.
