Obituary of Judith Gajadharsingh

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Judith Gwendolyn Gajadharsingh born August 16, 1937 in Whitewood, Saskatchewan to John and Doreen Erickson. Grandma, as she was affectionately known to all after the birth of her first grandchild, attended a one-room elementary school on her father's homestead and later completed her Grade 12 at Whitewood High School where she was always bemused to have been elected Miss Whitewood High. Grandma entered the Nurse's Training Program at City Hospital in Saskatoon but postponed her studies when she met her beloved husband of 60 years and began her family. Judy later resumed her education at Lethbridge Community College, where she completed the RN programme with honours, winning six of seven academic awards. After returning to Saskatoon, Judy worked at the Regional Psychiatric Centre and was later Head Nurse at the Saskatoon Veteran's Home until her retirement. Judy was a beloved Grandmother to all who knew her. Intelligent and witty, she was a voracious reader, superb cook and homemaker who created a warm and welcoming home for all and many. Interest wrought from reading thousands of books brought Grandma all over the world with an ever expanding curiosity that never ceased. She loved to travel, movies, books, long walks with close ones and most especially her family and grandchildren. Grandma touched many hearts with her kindness and selfless generosity. Grandma taught by example that confirmation, acceptance and love were paramount in the face of any crisis. The comfort, security, and well being of others always came first. Judy is predeceased by her parents, John and Doreen Erickson and by her brother John D. Erickson. Judy is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Joel L. Gajadharsingh, sons Robin Bally (Anthea) and Cameron Bally, and by her daughter, Jill Bally (Erick McNair) and by her beloved grandchildren, Cara, Hayden, Tyson, Kali, Lauryn and Ryan. Judy is also survived by her sister Anita Kimball (Jim), brother Terry Erickson (Denise), sister-in-law Sandra Erickson (John D.). Judy enjoyed so many meaningful relationships with family and close friends that justice could not be done here. We are especially thankful that Grandma was able to be at home with her husband and family until January 2017 and are grateful to those who so lovingly cared for Judy during her final few months at the Circle Drive Personal Care Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan are greatly appreciated.
