Obituary of Doris Tarasoff

Doris passed away peacefully in hospital after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 85. She was born in Saskatoon on August 5, 1931, to Maude (Cole) and Albert Simpson. She was the only daughter of 4 children. Doris is predeceased by her parents, husband Alec and 2 brothers, Marvin and Jim, and survived by brother Albert Robert (Betty Lou) and numerous nephews and nieces. Doris will be sadly missed by her 4 children Jerald (Lorna), Doug (Marilyn), Linda (Maurice) and Jack. Grandchild, Greg (Jennifer), Brent (Robyn), Byron, Derek (Bobbie), Allison (Devan), Kristen, Cory (Victoria), Kody (Janessa), Erik and Justin. Great Grandchild, Tristin, Katlin, Jada, Drew, Kaia, Karris, Tai, Tucker, and Scarlett. Doris wore many hats throughout her life. She was a wife, mother, farmer, teacher, grandmother, great grandmother and all round wonderful person. She worked side by side with Alec, her late husband, to make a good life on the farm. She decided to go back to teachers' college to get her teaching certificate to work with children and help support her family. Doris taught for 30 years in Pike Lake School, Finlayson School, Henrietta School and finally, Langham Elementary School, before retiring. Doris worked and played in Langham and area her whole life. Her motto was, "work doesn't hurt you". Doris believed in community. She insisted on her family knowing the province of Saskatchewan. The family traveled as often as they could. Mom followed the family, immediate and extended, camping, sightseeing, fishing, playing cards and visiting. Family was most important to Doris and that was a huge reason that she traveled. Gardening was a necessity that grew into her passion. There were often competitions over who would grow the first cucumbers or tomatoes. Pickling, preserving, baking and cooking for family, friends and community was her highlight. Doris took great pleasure watching and tending to the wild birds that visited her yard, while watching her garden grow. Doris was a good athlete in her younger years. Being agile and a team player she played softball. Doris and Alec became a couple as a result of this common interest and were married for 63 years. She worked and supported her community at every opportunity. She valued and supported every community function and attended as many as she could. Doris's faith in God and love for her church guided her through her life. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Knox United Church, Langham.
