Obituary of Joe Schmidt
JOSEPH SCHMIDT
October 2, 1954 – April 26, 2017
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of JOSEPH SCHMIDT announce his unexpected passing on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Left to mourn are his wife Cheryl Cotton-Schmidt and his loving daughter Anna Schmidt, his brother Lorenz Schmidt (Barbara), mother-in-law Lois Cotton Vinson (Gale), brothers-in-law Wayne Cotton (Deretta), Glenn Cotton (Mary) and step mother-in-law, Carmlee Cotton (Bill). He is predeceased by his mother Theresia (1993) and his father Josef (2006).
On April 1st Joe saw his daughter leave for a 3 month German exchange program. Joe loved and cherished his daughter with his every being and was so very happy he could provide this opportunity for her. After 25 years of marriage this October, he joked about looking forward to “the honeymoon”.
Joe was the proud owner of Nutana Auto Body, which has been in business for over 40 years. In 1998, he joined the CARSTAR Collision and Glass family network and soon opened his 2nd location. Joe’s passion to create positive change for the collision industry was far reaching throughout the province and Canada. He held many industry board positions, sat on many committees and was a CARSTAR advisory member. He worked hard every day and was always so appreciative of all his wonderful, caring and committed staff.
His love and commitment to the German Cultural Centre, as current President, comes from his heritage, parents and love of the people. Joe was very proud that Anna went to German Language School. She represented Germany as the Jr. Ambassador for Folkfest and he was delighted to spend those 3 long special days together with her.
Joe was a loving, kind-hearted, gentle man that was taken from all of us far to soon. He always gave with deep love, everything he could, to his family and friends. He had a very special gift of creating long lasting relationships that he treasured dearly with many friends and business acquaintances. He was a man of faith, honor and had a great respect for each and every person.
Thank you to the Knuckleheads Club and 7:22 Breakfast Club members. There are no words to describe the depth of his friendships with members of these clubs.
Anna and Cheryl wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many close friends that have supported them through this difficult time. ‘Prost’ to our wonderful husband and father and may you rest in peace now our dear love.
