Shirley Margarete Murray
January 14, 1931 – April 12, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Murray announces her peaceful passing on April 12, 2017. Shirley is survived by her husband of 34 years, Spencer Murray and their children; Gina Streisel (Paul), Peter Slickman (Miranda), Sandra Murray (Bruno), Colleen Gallant (Greg) and Forbes Murray (Suzanne). Shirley will be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Adam, Sarah, Olenka, Jake, Patrick, Alex, Allison, Kinzie and Callum. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Hannah Thams, brother Ken Thams as well as grandson, Reid Murray.
Shirley was born on January 14, 1931 in Saskatoon. Growing up, she enjoyed spending her summers in Waskesiu with her family. This tradition continued as an adult, spending time with her own children in a cabin in Waskesiu. When Shirley’s children were young, she was a Brownie leader for many years. At the age of 40, as a single mother of two, she returned to study at the University of Saskatchewan, which led her to working at the Saskatoon Public Library as a librarian in a bookmobile. Shirley and Spencer spent many years travelling to Mesa, Arizona, camping in Sicamous, BC and Candle Lake, SK. Shirley enjoyed reading, making crafts, painting with watercolours and working with stained glass but especially loved listening to music.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Luther Special Care Home for their support over the past five years. In Shirley’s final days, they ensured that her comfort and dignity were of utmost importance.
