Obituary of Earl Foster
It is with great sadness that the family of Earl Foster announce his passing on April 10, 2017. Earl was born on July 22, 1934 in Montreal. He graduated from high school at the age of 16 years and attended University. Highlights of his career included spending eight years in executive positions with the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1960 he joined a major national trust company and began a steady rise through positions of increasing responsibility across Canada. In 1963 he graduated with honours from the Queens University trust companies course and moved to Brockville, Ontario branch as marketing manager. In 1968, he opened the Saskatoon branch and became the branch manager, moved on to Winnipeg as assistant branch manager, then on to Calgary as branch manager. In 1975 Earl was selected as CEO of the Cooperative Trust Company of Canada for a 5 year term with head office in his beloved Saskatoon. In 1976 he was awarded the second highest designation offered by the Trust Companies Association of Canada, becoming Fellow of the Trust Companies Institute. In later years he worked as a financial consultant primarily for Golf Restaurants and together with Peter Golf opened seven Fuddruckers restaurants in western Canada. Earl served on the Board of Directors for the Saskatoon Food Bank for twenty years and was their Treasurer and an organizer of the annual golf tournament. He loved all sports particularly golf, baseball and hockey. Earl was an avid golfer at the Riverside Country Club and later at the Silverwood Golf Course. All five children learned to golf under his instruction. In the winter months, Earl loved to play Bridge and could be located at any one of several senior's groups. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in May of 2015 and fought the disease with courage. Earl will be remembered for his positive attitude, intelligence, generosity, sportsmanship and as a gentleman. He was a loving husband, father and grandparent. He was predeceased by his brother Allan. Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Margaret, five children, Susan, Steven (Lyn), Michael (Lynn), their mother Lorna, stepson Scott Irvine and youngest daughter Kathryn (Aziz), his brother Ian (Heather), sister-in-law Carol, grandchildren, Berkeley, Brayden, Brady, Odin, Jessica, and Umah; nieces Megan, Karen, Wendy, nephews, Dougie, Danny, William and many extended family members and friends especially Chris Weisgerber, Don Carlson, and Ruth Jones. His family would like to thank all the medical doctors, palliative care nurses, and the Community Paramedics involved in Earl's care with a special thank you to his family physician Dr. C Enweani.
