Obituary of Ruth Reimer
It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Reimer announce her passing on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Bethany Villa with family at her side. Mom was born on August 31, 1924 to Otto and Marie Froese in Gross Mausdorf, in the free state of Danzig (Germany). In January 1945, mom and her family had to flee from their home because of the war. In 1948, she began nurse’s training but after 2 ½ years, she came to Canada with her family with the help of the Mennonite Central Committee. The first year here she worked on a sugar beet farm in Coaldale, AB. Then she began work in a small hospital. The friends she made there invited her to the Mennonite Brethern Church and she accepted Jesus as her Savior and Refuge. In 1955 she met Walter Reimer; they married the next year. Their marriage was blessed with 3 sons and 1 daughter. Having a family and raising her children was the highlight of her life. They lived in Kindersley for over 50 years. In 2007, they moved to Saskatoon. In 2009, dad passed away and mom moved into Bethany Manor. She loved her little apartment there so much. In December 2015, as her strength declined, she moved into the Villa at Bethany. When she moved in, she said, “I hope this will be my last move.” Two months ago she was diagnosed with cancer. With the help of palliative care, the wonderful care aides at Bethany and family, mom was able to pass away at Bethany. Mom is survived by Rick (Karen) Reimer of North Battleford, Arnie (Jan) Reimer of Calgary, Norman (Brenda) Reimer of Regina, Linda (Grant) Bachiu of Saskatoon, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson whom she was able to meet before she passed away. Mom loved knitting, reading, drinking coffee and visiting with friends and family. She was always content with what she had and always found something to be thankful for.
