Dear Brenda and family,
As a new pastor coming to Canada in 1973, I got to know Dan and appreciate his wisdom and gentle spirit. Being in Ontario since 1982, I haven't had contact in years, but the memory of Dan brings a good feeling to me. I am sure that you all feel great pain at his death. May you be comforted by the peace of God coming in many ways. Ed Long

Dan was such a gentle-spirit and kind person, with a wonderful sense of humour. I met Dan, when he interviewed me for a position in the Division for Parish Life, ELCIC...what I most remember from that interview, was his asking me to sit in a specific chair, and when I did, I found out it had no springs and I sunk way, way, down, almost to the floor. Dan thought this was so funny! Around him, and the building were many card-board boxes, as the whole office was moving from the rental space on Hargrave St, to the National Offices on St. James St. It was a privilege to have been a co-worker with Dan, at the National Office, and then to see him again, when Dan and Brenda moved to Saskatoon, and I was then in Seminary. God continue to comfort you, Brenda, with his peace and love. ~~Donna J.

Dear Brenda and family, I was shocked to hear the news of Dan's passing. Pancreatic cancer is such an aggressive illness. I feel privileged to have had so many wonderful times with Dan, at the curling rink, traveling to the Friars' Briar, gathering at Saskatoon Lutheran events, socializing with the clergy colleagues, occasionally meeting on the golf course and just crossing paths in so many ways. He was always brightened the day and offered a wise perspective on issues of the day. We remember him with several pieces of blue pottery in our home. Margaret, Renelle and Brendan all enjoyed classes with Dan as an experienced mentor in the group. Dan will be missed by so many. Our hearts go out to you all in this painful time of loss and we pray for peace as you say good-bye. God bless you.

Dear Brenda, We are so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. It is such a shock. I had the priviledge of having a wonderful, lengthy conversation with him at Rebekah's wedding this summer, and I was touched by his ability to listen with intention and demonstrate genuine interest, a skill that is so often lost in these days of tweets and superficial interactions. It will be a memory that I will cherish. We have lost an amazing saint. Strength to you and your family in these difficult days. You are surrounded by prayer and love. Sincerely, Susan Cherland

I was sorry to hear of Dan's death. My son, Sten, who got to know and respect him in Kiwanis informed me yesterday. I recall warmly the associations we had with you both when Chris was in seminary all those years ago.
God bless.

Brenda, You and Dan have been a gift to Dory and I. We remember with great fondness the time we spent together in a marriage enrichment type gathering with you during our seminary years, and of course all the contacts through work, seminary, Camrose and Resurrection Lutheran over the decades since. And Dory has enjoyed the Bible Study with Dan this past year. God's peace and healing as you mourn.

Dear Brenda,
It is many years now since Dan and I were in the head office in Saskatoon. That was in 1975-77. I have not seen Dan much since, mostly at Synod conventions. What I remember most was his gentle spirit and his smile. May God bless you at this Christmas time and fill the vacuum left by his death with the peace and hope in the resurrection.
