Obituary of Rubylee Isabell Powder
Rubylee Isabell Powder was born on October 27, 1998 in Hay River, NWT. She is the second child to Denis and Tammy Powder. Her siblings were the most important people in her life.
Ruby was a kind and gentle soul. She had an incredible energy that radiated in any room she was in and she touched so many people with her kindness and compassion. Ruby loved animals, in particular dogs. She adored her job at Companion Inn caring for dogs and being responsible for the daycare bus. Her care and attention to animals was seen by so many people and was validated by the animals as they trusted her fully.
Ruby struggled most of her life with mental illness and this made relationships hard for her. She tried so hard and diligently in therapy to try and navigate the darkness her mental illness continued to tell her; that she was not good enough. However, she never had to do anything but be herself with animals. She was a dog mom to Molly and Colter who adored her and they brought her so much peace. Ruby fought hard for over 15 years against the powerful mental illness that had tried to take her multiple times. She never stopped trying until the very end. Even though she was in her own pain, she never said no to helping someone sit in their own darkness. She helped so many, selflessly through their pain even though she was in hers. She left this world on her own terms; sober as a gopher.
Ruby was tired of fighting the thick, black sludge that mental illness continued to engulf and trap her in. She was tired and she needed to lay down her sword and rest. Her family and those that love her will pick up her pain for her so she can rest. She did so good and her family is incredibly proud of her. She was our little warrior and life will never be the same without our little precious jewel.
Ruby is predeceased by her Memere; Margaurite Powder, her Uncle Kelly King who are keeping her safe. As well as many friends who have also lost their battle with mental illness. She is survived by her parents Denis and Tammy Powder, her siblings that she adored; Brandan (Janel), Jaxon and Ella as well as her bonus sister Junell. Her grandparents, Russell and Mary King, Her aunties and uncles that loved her deeply; Spencer King (Angelia), Arlene Mills (Larry), Kelly King Jr, Ron Powder (Jodi), Lisa Powder (Rodger), Bruce Powder (Jessica), her sister cousins; Alexandra King, Dana Mills and all of her cousins. She is survived by Desiree and Brian and all the staff that loved her deeply at Companion Inn. And she is survived by her beautiful dogs Molly and Colter who will be cared for and loved by her parents.
I lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in her name to a local animal shelter, to a local mental health facility or to the YWCA. And most importantly, carry on Ruby’s journey of being a ripple of kindness, gentleness and compassion.
