Obituary of Doris Jean Hopkins
Doris Jean Hopkins (”Bunny” to family and friends) passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024 at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon at the age of 102.
Jean was born to Halvor and Hannah Vindeg on August 7, 1921 and was raised on the family farm near Demaine. She met the love of her life, Jack Hopkins, whom she married in 1952. They lived on the family farm near Wiseton and were together until Jack’s passing in 1990. Jean missed Jack dearly until her death and hopefully they are reunited. She was predeceased by almost all of her contemporaries, and particularly missed her sisters, Betty and Kay. She is survived by her three children, Mark (Karen Laurin) of Calgary, Nancy (Matthew Miazga) of Saskatoon and Don (Brenda O’Connor) of Saskatoon, their children and her one adorable great-grandchild.
She was always a passionate advocate for peace and the environment, and a firm believer in the right to a medically-assisted death, though the constraints of that program meant she was unable to benefit from it herself. Her approach to life, and in particular her thrift, was very much influenced by her childhood during the Great Depression.
The family thanks the wonderful staff at the Hospice at Glengarda for their care in her last weeks. As well they would like to thank the staff at the Palisades for their care in the prior years.
A private Celebration of Bunny’s Life will be held at a future date. In loving memory of her life a tree will be planted through the MVA. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a donation in Bunny's name may do so to The Saskatoon Community Clinic Foundation.
