Obituary of Brent Poncelet

Brent passed away from heart failure in good care and with loved ones at RUH in Saskatoon on February 19, 2023 at the age of 71. Brent was born in Melfort, SK to Hope and Jack Poncelet on November 19, 1951.

Brent grew up on the family farm near Meskenaw, SK with 7 siblings. He acquired his pilots license and went seeking adventure as a bush pilot in the north flying a De Havilland Beaver, Single Otter, and Twin Otter for Nipawin Air (Osprey Wings) based in Pelican Narrows, Missinipe, and Stony Rapids. He had a lot of laughs with owners Garry and Bonnie Thompson.  It was in Pelican Narrows that he met many life long friends and his wife Judy Norheim. Brent eventually decided to pursue a career in education, and returned to teach in Pelican Narrows. He also taught at Little Red River School, Prince Albert Grand Council, and finally the Prince Albert Youth Residence. He took pride in teaching practical life skills along with the academics. His students would learn skills such as axe and chainsaw work, cross country skiing, furniture and log cabin building, pickling, making perogies and gardening. In 1985 they settled on an acreage outside of Prince Albert where they would raise their family.

He leaves to mourn his wife Judy and his three children; Lisa (Scott) Freyja, Brennen, Tikken; Brent C. (Tomina), Jude; and Matthew (Danielle), Hadley, Olivia. Brents siblings: Guy (Sharon), Jackie, Mark, Daryl (Chantelle), Dawn, Bobbe (Rob), sister in law Karen Arend and Linda Norheim. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends he loved dearly. Brent was predeceased by his parents Hope and Jack, his brother Hector, In-laws: Erling and Julia Norheim, Gerry Labine, Virginia Poncelet, Stephen LaBine, Wes Norheim and Ernst Arend.

Brent was passionate about carpentry weather it was a small shelf or large house, and anything in between. He was often occupied renovating a home or yard for family members, gardening, taking care of the acreage, barbecuing, skiing or picking berries for the grandkid’s ice cream. He had a whole new appreciation for life once the grandkids came along. He loved them so much. He loved his life and lived it to the fullest. As many of you know, Brent was a real jokester, we want to clarify that this is not a joke LOL.

A service to Celebrate Brent's life will be held at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Ave. North, on Sunday February 26, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
