Obituary of Sydney Wayne Stewart
Sydney Wayne Stewart passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at RUH in Saskatoon at the age of 75.
Wayne was born August 15, 1942 in Govan, SK. He was the eldest son of Roy & Ada Stewart. He grew up in Raymore, SK, but spent many years in Melville, SK, and the San Francisco, CA area before settling down in Saskatoon.
Dad was a man of many talents, but he was hands down the best mechanic around and was respected in his field by all. His passion was cars, whether it was fixing them (most times for free), building them, smashing them and in his younger years, racing them. If you were not driving a Chevy, you quite possibly were driving JUNK! And in his colorful vocabulary...he wouldn’t hesitate telling you that!
Behind his stubborn, tough exterior was a man who loved his family unconditionally; he had a heart of gold. He was generous to a fault and he would give anyone the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his pocket...at times to his detriment. He was modest and had difficulty accepting compliments for his many talents and accomplishments.
He had a big heart for animals but he truly loved dogs, especially German Shepherds. He loved & owned several over the span of his lifetime, one being Winston, who made many trips to California with Dad & Linda.
He loved Western movies, bluegrass music and not many knew his hidden talent of singing and playing the guitar, a trait handed down from his Mom.
An avid Leafs fan, he cheered loudly & proudly, often sending his dogs running for cover. If a fight broke out in the game...he would jump up and scream at the TV, yelling even louder cheering them on! In 2017, he enjoyed FINALLY getting to watch them make the playoffs.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda of 18 years. His children: Kim (Shelley) Stewart, Laura (Shannon) Peterson, Darla (Dave) Hude, Lana (Will) Fehr and Chantel Gray. His step-children: Jennifer (Larry) Martin, Jessica (Tim) Thoen and Bobby Milburn.
He was Papa to Melissa (Chad) Bradley, Amanda (Trent) Rodriguez, Rachel Peterson, Jenna Peterson (fiancé Caleb Bristow), Hannah Hude, Seth Hude, Graysen Suen, David Martin and Jeremy Thoen.
His brothers Myles Stewart and Archie Stewart, his first wife Marlene Stewart, numerous nieces & nephews, and many friends will also miss him.
Wayne was predeceased by his dad in 1987; and his mother in 2012.
A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at New Life Pentecostal Church, 143 Wedge Road, Saskatoon, SK with Pastor Tom Dehod officiating. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA or New Hope Dog Rescue.
